Workshop Descriptions

• "Fighting burnout with BURNOUT"  With Amber Tucker & Gretchen Brown-Waech: Burnout is all too common in the field of sign language interpretation. It impacts not only individual practitioners, but also Deaf consumers as well as the future of the field itself. This highly interactive workshop presents participants with various approaches and techniques to preventing burnout, and recovering from burnout when it occurs. Participants will engage in multiple hands-on activities, and learn strategies to implement in their practice in a practical and customized way.
• Grammatically Expressive With Amanda Gallant: Analyzing facial grammar in American Sign Language and our facial expressions. How external factors affect our facial expression and grammar. Reflecting on how factors affect our emotions and internal processing while interpreting.
• Create Your Personal Mission Statement: Preventing Burnout Through Purpose  With Amber Tucker & Gretchen Brown-Waech: Reconnect with your purpose during this highly interactive workshop! Participants will be guided through a visualization exercise intended to focus on their purpose and what brings them joy. Then they will create a vision board that they can take home with them as a physical reminder and inspiration for when they are feeling burnout symptoms.
